1. Virtual Field Trip to Rome for Valentine’s Day

 

Let’s all take a field trip! In this Virtual Field Trip, students take a trip throughout the history of Rome for a cross-curricular learning experience perfect for Valentine’s Day! Students will learn about the history of Rome by learning about some famous figures such as St. Valentine and Cupid, geography and architecture such as the Tiber River and The Pantheon, and cultural influences such as Roman Numerals and Pizza. This virtual field trip in Google Slides & Seesaw contains video links, images, reading passages, exercises, writing activities, and more.

 

This resource integrates a variety of social studies and reading skills. Students also complete reading and writing assignments along with watching videos and completing thought-provoking exercises. Incorporates key reading comprehension, writing, multimedia, social studies, and other skills.

Although great care has been taken to ensure all content is appropriate for the stated grade levels, each classroom is unique and it is recommended that teachers review all content prior to use. This resource is suitable for the following grade levels:

  • 2nd & 3rd Grade: With teacher modeling, whole class, or small groups.
  • 4th & 5th Grade: Independent for on-level students.

 

Time to Complete:

This virtual field trip takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. The time it takes to complete can vary based on your students. It can be completed in one session or broken up into multiple sessions.

 

 

2. Be My Valentine Geometry Project Based Learning – 4th & 5th Grade (Separate Resources)

 

Be my Valentine is a project-based learning activity that involves using 4th & 5th grade math standards to celebrate Valentine’s Day. In these PBLs, your students will make valentines to give to their classmates, friends, and family. These resources contain a standards-based unit in both printable PDF and Google Slides versions – so they’re the perfect activity to increase engagement and interest for any classroom. Additional “challenge activities” engage students and develop further understanding of the concepts and skills.

 

These project-based learning activities involve using the following CCSS math standards to solve problems related to celebrating Valentine’s Day.

 

  • 4.NF.B.A Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction by a whole number.
  • 4.MD.C.5 Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint and understand concepts of angle measurement.
  • 4.MD.C.6 Measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor. Sketch angles of specified measure.
  • 4.G.A.1 Draw points, lines, line segments, rays, angles (right, acute, obtuse), and perpendicular and parallel lines. Identify these in two-dimensional figures.
  • 4.G.A.2 Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category and identify right triangles.
  • 4.G.A.3 Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.
  • 5.NBT.B.7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths.
  • 5.NF.B.4.B Multiply fractional side lengths to find areas of rectangles.
  • 5.NF.B.6 Solve real-world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
  • 5.MD.A.1 Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system.
  • 5.MD.C.3 Recognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and understand concepts of volume measurement.
  • 5.MD.C.4 Measure volume by counting unit cubes, using cubic cm, cubic in, cubic ft, and improvised units.
  • 5.MD.C.5 Relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume.
  • 5.G.B.4 Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.

This 4th and 5th grade Help Cupid Poetry Escape Room & Webscape™ is a truly immersive experience. Students practice key skills while they cupid spread love and kindness. In this escape room, students are asked to complete four unique challenges. Each challenge requires students to read passages and answer multiple choice questions. Students add their answers to the Cupid Decoder Tool and complete each challenge to successfully complete all the challenges to make some cute cards, show off their magnificent moves, bake some tasty treats, and hand-deliver a beautiful bouquet.
