NOTE: Lunar New Year is celebrated in many countries across Asia, including China, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. Some traditions are shared, while others are unique to each country’s cultural identity. In China, the celebration is referred to as Chūnjié or the “Spring Festival” and is commonly referred to as “Chinese New Year.” Although Chinese New Year traditions are the most known in the United States, this resource explores Lunar New Year celebrations and traditions that are specific to China as well as celebrations and traditions that are not specific to China.
