⭐3rd grade math soccer tournament is a project based learning unit based all around hosting a soccer tournament based on Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Numbers in Base Ten, and Measurement and Data. This 3rd grade resource contains a standards-based unit in both printable PDF and Google Slides versions – so it’s the perfect activity to increase engagement and interest in the classroom or distance learning. Students follow instructions to work within a budget, calculate income from registrations, subtract expenses, review soccer practice statistics, create a line plot, and more. Additional “challenge activities” engage students and develop further understanding of the concepts and skills.


⭐ This project-based learning task involves using the following CCSS math standards to solve problems related to hosting a soccer tournament.

  • 3.OA.A.1 Interpret products of whole numbers.
  • 3.OA.A.2 Interpret whole number quotients.
  • 3.OA.A.3 Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement, quantities.
  • 3OA.D.8 Solve 2-step problems using the four operations.
  • 3.NBT.A.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on properties of operations and/or the relationship between add/sub.
  • 3.NBT.A.3 Multiply 1-digit numbers by multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 using strategies based on place value and properties.
  • 3.MD.A.1 Tell time, write time to the nearest minutes, and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes.
  • 3.MD.B.4 Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with wholes, halves, and fourths of an inch. Show data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units.
