Ice Cream Truck Mania: Math Project Based Learning – 5th Grade
Get ready for a sweet and exciting math PBL adventure with our 5th grade Ice Cream Truck Project-Based Learning! This print-and-go PBL is designed to engage and challenge fourth graders. Students will use their math skills to run their very own ice cream truck business.
You have been hired to run an ice cream truck! It is your job to stock the ice cream truck with tasty treats, keep track of the money you earned, and serve delicious ice cream to the community in a timely manner!
Through a series of fun and interactive activities, students will:
- Use order of operations and multiplication and division word problems to determine the ice cream supply
- Use time to create a schedule for their truck stops
- Solve measurement word problems involving mass with fractions and decimals
- Compare ice cream cone masses with fractions
- Use scaled pictographs and bar graphs to answer questions about their truck stops
With this activity, students will develop essential math skills like problem-solving,multiplication and division, time, measurement, fractions, decimals, and graphing- all while having fun and satisfying their sweet tooth. - 5.NBT.B.5 Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
- 5.NBT.B.6 Find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors.
- 5.NF.B.4 Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.
- 5.NF.B.6 Solve real-world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers.
- 5.MD.A.1 Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system.
- 5.MB.B.2 Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit.
